The Duluth Curling Club’s afternoon recreational curling for seniors – including men and women interested in learning the sport – will begin with a warm-up and instructional clinic at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 29th. Once the season starts, senior curlers gather at 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday for club competition with several one-day “mini-bonspiels” planned, including a home-and-home rivalry with senior curlers from Eveleth’s Curl Mesabi Club.
The board of directors has been working diligently this summer on restructuring our league offerings. All of our leagues are typically full, and we do not have space for new curlers to continue curling in our club after they complete the new curler league. We recieved overwhelming feedback from members saying they do not want league times to change for the upcoming 2015-16 curling season. After lots of discussion and brainstorming, we have decided to keep most league times the same as they were last year. We have come up with some new league offerings to try to give new and current members more opportunities to curl in leagues at the DCC. We encourage you to sign up and try some of these new leagues this year!
A few club policy changes:
- There will be no more flex games. All leagues will be limited to 17 teams with a bye each week. If everyone from last year’s league signs up again this year, they will be grandfathered in at 18 teams.
- Changes to the buzzer during regular season play- when the buzzer goes off, you are in your last end. It doesn’t matter if your team is on their first rock or their last. It doesn’t matter if you are tied. NO EXCEPTIONS!
