LEARN TO CURL
2006 beginnner's clinics will be October 23, 24, 25 at 6PM.

Curling takes a minimum of instruction to be competent, but forever to master. It does not require unusual skill or athleticism. Any person in reasonable health who understands the basics of sportsmanship can curl safely and have fun, while meeting new people and enjoying a lifetime sport. Many people curl competitively into their 80's and can compete head to head with the best, but it is also a sport enjoyed enthusiastically by many grade-schoolers. (The Club's youngest active curler is 8. The oldest is currently 93)  It is great fun and good exercise, and the emphasis is on friendly competition.

It is neither an expensive nor an elitist sport. The equipment costs far less than even the cheapest golf set, and the Club's dues are less than an active bowler would pay in a year.

If you would like to learn to curl, there are a number of instructors at the DCC, certified by the United States Curling Association to teach you properly and safely. Instructions are offered at nominal cost at our annual clinics. The Club will provide the necessary equipment, all you need is a medium weight sweater or light jacket and a pair of very clean shoes (we keep our ice spotless, no street shoes, please)

First, you will learn on-ice safety. Then we will work you through the basic skills and techniques, and explain the objectives, scoring and strategies of curling. Along the way, you will be introduced to the traditions that have made curling the favorite winter sport of tens of millions worldwide.

You will learn to curl in a couple of hours, and then many people join one or both of the two weekly "New Curler's" leagues. You might also choose to join a more experienced team as a "lead" (first rock thrower), and if so, we can help you find an appropriate team and league. We have leagues for all skill levels. No matter your level, you will never run out of challenging competition at the Duluth Curling Club!

We also run a very active and popular Junior Curling Program for young people ( age 7 to 18).  It has produced, over the years, several national champions and Olympic contenders.  The Juniors Program is on Tuesdays from 4-6 and some Fridays, and is enthusiastically and noisily enjoyed by about 80 local kids from November through March, all for $60 per year.

To inquire about learning to curl, please call the office anytime, 218-727-1851. It is staffed year-round Monday-Thursday, 1-9 PM, and some weekends. OR drop us a note.
